Ace Pippens started this league with his nephew in mind. Malachi Armstead has had a love for basketball every since he was 3.
As a sports player himself, Pippens played basketball, baseball, football and ran track. He grew up in an atheletic family where everyone played together. "Whether we were baseball at Baxter Park, or going to Homewood Park (Westinghouse Park), we played together." After Ace was shot and paralyzed in 1994, he still had a love for sports. What better way to utilize his skills then to give back to the generations after him? He was assistant football and basketball coach at Oliver High School, his ameautuer, Assistant and Head Coach at Penn State Greater Allegheny in McKeesport and has been the Head Coach for the ABA teams the Steel City Yellow Jackets and Steel City Queens. "This year I wanted to take it a step farther and start a league for the kids," said Ace. A new league and safe haven has been created for the children across the city. Dare to have a D.R.E.A.M.! |
